A Petition to Save Danbury’s First Church

Three Ways You Can Help

(Posted July 24, 2024)

On August 8, Danbury’s Zoning Board of Appeals will consider variances to zoning regulations for property that the First Congregational Church of Danbury owns.

Our development partner (Bob Botelho, President of Victorian Associates) is asking for these variances in order to accommodate 30 units of senior housing that he intends to build next to the church building, after he purchases our property.

The purchase agreement includes a perpetual leaseback to the church so that we may continue to operate and flourish. Our goal – the church’s and Bob’s – is to preserve this historic and iconic church in downtown Danbury.

Three Ways You Can Help

  1. Click this link, enter your name and email address. After you read the petition on the website, click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.
  2. Write a letter to Zoning Board of Appeals asking them to grant the variances:
    City of Danbury
    Zoning Board of Appeals
    155 Deer Hill Ave.
    Danbury, CT 06810
    Attn: Joseph Hanna
  3. Ask your friends and neighbors to sign the petition or write a letter.

We are continuously grateful for all the ways Danbury people show their love and support for the community!
